Teaching Experience
I began teaching in the Fall of 2015. I have served as a Teaching Assistant for Physiology 503, General Physiology I, for Physiology 504, General Physiology II, and Physiology 595, Cell Physiology. For both Phy 503 and Phy 504, I worked during the three team based learning activities, and developed review sessions each semester. The team based learning activities were set up so students could discuss quiz questions as a group. This way they were able to explain their reasoning on answers, as well as hear other student's reasoning. Working with the professor, I walked around to help guide students in the correct path. |
I also had the chance to take control of the Teaching Assistant position by scheduling, developing, and leading my own review sessions. Based on the topics covered in class or their book, I set up review sessions designed to explain difficult processes and quiz students understanding of the topics. This was a great opportunity that allowed me to learn a lot about the process of creating lectures, as well as fine tune my presentation skills.
In the Spring of 2016, I also TAed for Cell Physiology. This is a two credit hour discussion course designed to help students explore how various cells work. It is set up with mostly group discussions, and several small quizzes. For the group discussions, I worked with the professor to help facilitate the groups as they answered questions. We explained concepts students didn't understand in the text, answered questions they had, or just served as a guide to the correct answer.
